Carbis Bay, Cornwall, England. I took this photograph on Carbis Bay beach during a very low tide. At the time I didn’t know what the object was. I’ve since discovered it is part of a wrecked collier. On 17th November 1893 three ships were dashed ashore during a gale: the Cintra, the Vulture and the Bessie. I cannot be sure which ship this is from but, from the various accounts I’ve read, I believe it to be the Cintra, after which the gale was subsequently named. The storm also claimed a fourth ship, the Rosedale, which broke up on Porthminster beach in St Ives, and a fifth, the Hampshire, was lost 10 miles north of Godrevy.
